ANDREW SAMUEL PENGELLY - MM
On the night of 13/14 June 1982, on the Island of east Falkland, the 2nd Battalion Scots Guards attacked well entrenched enemy position on the craggy ridge feature of Tumbledown Mountain, seven kilometers to the west of port Stanley
During the assault, leading elements came under fire from a sniper hidden high up in nearby rocky crags. Guardsman PENGELLY reacted immediately: abondoning his machine gun and armed with grenades, he climbed up the wet and slippery tocks toward the enemy position. Reaching the top, he hurled a grenade and killed the sniper. As he threw the grenade he was hit and badly wounded by enemy mortar fire. His courageous action was a significant individual contribution of a high order, to the success of the battle.
For his outstanding courage under fire and in the face of the enemy, Guardsman PENGELLY is very strongly recommended for the award of a Military Medal

I worked with Andy at HMP Wandsworth in the '90s. Someone told me his health has deteriorated. Does anyone know?
Andy was my mate , we worked and trained together at HMP Liverpool , sadly Andy passed away several years ago , incredible man sorely missed and never forgotten
Ah lm alive a living in Cornwall. I was attacked and run down with a car back in 1999, was in hospital or months, I think some people think l died, but still here.
Like Sean, I worked with Andy at Wandsworth. Very sad news about his passing
Very sad news about Andy. Also worked with him at Wandsworth
Was this Andy from Devon and an amputee from a motorbike accident? His family have been searching for him for many years and I have been occasional searching sites over the years for any news. It will give his elderly mother some closure to know what happened to him. Very sad to hear he has died and need to confirm it is the same Andy Pengelley awarded for his bravery at Tumbledown. Please post a reply comment, I will also try the Falklands Facebook site. The recent TV documentary has prompted my searching again for his mother. Thank you.
Can I check that this Andy was from Devon and an amputee following a motorbike accident? His family have been searching for news of him for many years. Watching the recent Falklands War TV documentary has again prompted me to look at the sites for his elderly mother. Very sad to hear he has died, but just wanted to check it is the same Andy and perhaps obtain some further information for his mother, which will give her some closure. She will be pleased to hear that he went onto to have a career at HMPs and give her comfort to read the kind words said about him. I will be seeing his mother in person first week in July, so hope to have a reply to my comment by then with any further news, in order to break the news to her in person. Thank you.
Can you tell me a bit more mate. People who knew him would like to know a bit more.
Worked closely and trained with Andy at HMP Liverpool until I qualified as a PEI. Great guy, helped me out when I really needed a friend and put my up for a while until I got sorted. So sorry to here if his passing. Will be missed. Big brash but a heart of gold.
I can confirm that Andi Pengelly is alive and well. I haven’t spoken to his mum in a few years.. but I have exchanged messages today with Andi. Andi & I joined HMP together. We have been friends since 1988. He lost his leg through a criminal injury ..whilst working as a door man in Croydon. He is living a quiet life with his partner.
I have been in correspondance with his mother over many years. Although not for the last few. She knows he was in HMP, she knows about his leg.
Andi was my nights partner at WW in 1993. A true gent. Think og him often.
Is this the Andy pengaly that worked the blue orchid
