After the war 2nd Battalion Scots Guards were bought back from the islands to Ascension Island on board the MV Norrland. She was (at the time) the largest ferry going from the UK to mainland Europe and apart from being able to take 1200 passengers (about a battalion) she was also able to take a lot of freight
