Bill Slaney - Left Flank

Had a very interesting chat with Bill Slaney's brother who is soon going to be visiting the Falkland Islands for the first time and of course to walk across Tumbeldown

He sent me this article that was done by the BBC on hos brother

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/2044074.stm

Have to say Bill wasnt too happy about what was written as one sentence of his was taken out of context (or misunderstood by the reported) when he was quoted with the following

I had come from training, only having experienced seven live rounds on the ranges.

Knowing how we had been deployed he was probably referring to the few rounds we got to fire on the way down which was to zero our rifles

Anyway a good read and good conversation, thanks for the link

Lecture by Professor Vernon Bogdanor

Another lecture from the naval point of view

After the war 2nd Battalion Scots Guards were bought back from the islands to Ascension Island on board the MV Norrland. She was (at the time) the largest ferry going from the UK to mainland Europe and apart from being able to take 1200 passengers (about a battalion) she was also able to take a lot of freight

Found an interesting video were her crew recount their experiences https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbCTW9bGmJg&t=1605s

Another interesting presentation

He didn't think much of 5 Brigade

Browsing around on YouTube I came across some interesting lectures

This one is about the logistics and is quite well done. Couple of errors (with regards some of the photos, the landing craft for instance couldn't have been of 2SG as we sailed at night plus I am pretty sure we all hand a Landrover in each of them)

Anyway its worth watching
